Desserts : Pies and Pastries : Mary Forester's Buttermilk Pie
Mary Forester's Buttermilk PieMy friend Mike gave me his mother Mary's recipe, which she adapted from a prize-winning recipe at the LA County Fair in the 1950's!Because we are a 'green' b&b we use organic butter, eggs and flour, but if you don't have those handy the old standby's will do... BUTTERMILK PIE 1/2 cup soft organic butter 2 cups sugar 3 large organic eggs one heaping tablespoon of organic flour 1 cup BUTTERMILK 2 tsp. vanilla 1 unbaked 9 inch pie shell Cream butter and sugar until light. Add eggs and beat well. Add flour and beat well. Stir in buttermilk to cream mixture. Mix well. Pour into pie shell, and bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes in preheated oven. Inserted tooth pick should come out clean. Our guests like this pie warm from the oven, but it tastes just as good the next day taken chilled from the refrigerator. |
