Welcome to the Brumder Mansion Bed & Breakfast. George Brumder, a prominent Milwaukee businessleader, built this majestic brick home in 1910 for his eldest son. Designed in the English Arts & Crafts style, it blends Victorian, Gothic and Arts & Crafts elements. The bed and breakfast's lower level contains a small theatre which is home to professional productions and master acting classes from Cornerstone Theatre Company. We invite bed and breakfast guests to join us in the audience.
Milwaukee is home to many festivals and events. The Brumder Mansion Bed and Breakfast is also close to many area attractions. Brumder Mansion was built in 1910 by the prominent Milwaukee businessman George Brumder for his eldest son George Jr. George Brumder, came to Milwaukee in the late 1800s where he purchased an ailing publishing company.
He turned the business around and proceeded to make a fortune publishing numerous German language newspapers, bibles and sheet music. The family later branched out into banking and manufacturing. Since the Brumders moved on, the mansion has been a boarding house, a parsonage, and activity center for the Lutheran Church. Various rooms had been converted into individual offices, a stage was added to the lower level "ballroom" and a psychedelic youth chapel was built on the second floor. The Theatre (originally a billiard room) was a coffee house, and live music venue called The Catacombs in the 60's.
When the Hirschis bought the home from the church in 1997 it was in a state of disrepair and rather institutional in appearance. However, it had the potential to be a wonderful Bed and Breakfast. With painstaking care, Carol Hirschi revitalized this grand old mansion, bringing back the look and feel of the Victorian era. The Bed and Breakfast opened in April of 1998.
