The original Gates House Bed & Breakfast, built in 1880, is a two-story Colonial revival-style house. Located in the heart of the historic district of Columbus, this elegant inn allows you to step back in time to the opulence of the Victorian period. The present owners spent five years restoring and decorating this house, taking great care to retain many original features. These features are combined with many modern conveniences that will make you feel pampered and cared for in a grand Southern style.
Gates House East opened its doors on June 28, 2001 after a complete renovation. Built in 1873 by A. S. Matheson, it has only had four owners in its 130 year history. After serving as a residence for the Matheson family for 63 years it was sold to the Catholic Club of Columbus where it served as the Knights of Columbus Lodge for 60 years. Purchased in 1997 by its 3rd owner, it served as a residence and limited bed and breakfast and we purchased it in December, 2000 to make it into a full bed and breakfast. It has been fully restored to its original beauty, to which all of the modern conveniences have been added.

We promise a good nights sleep and the best breakfast experience you have ever had; a pure delight to all of the senses. We have the most convenient location for your stay in Columbus. The Rivercenter is one block from our front door; the Columbus Ironworks Convention and Trade Center is just across the street from our back door. The Columbus Riverwalk is one block west of us.
Custom silk bedspreads, designer window treatments, oriental carpets and incredible antiques are in every room at our Inn. We bake our original recipe breads, we offer a delicious selection of snacks, beverages and homemade desserts to our guests free of charge. We have complementary bikes with helmets, membership in health club and a home theater room with a large selection of complementary movies. We promise that when you try us you will stay with us.
