In 1760, Peabody Bradford, great-grandson of Plymouth Colony's Governor William Bradford, built a 5-room Cape house on the northern bank of the Jones River. Its dock, known as "The Landing", received and dispatched all of the goods, cattle, and travelers leaving or coming by boat to the town of Kingston. A century and a half later, the owners enlarged the house and added a restaurant to accommodate travelers. In 1953, when the construction of Route 3 forced the removal of the house from the river bank, it was moved four hundred yards east to its present location.
The Powell family has hosted a Bed and Breakfast at the Peabody Bradford Homestead for the past 23 years. Their guests, who come from every corner of the world, enjoy the gently rolling grounds and the charming ambiance of the 1760 Bradford House. Its location makes for memorable visits to historic Plymouth and is ideal for day trips to Cape Cod, the Islands, Newport, Boston, Gloucester, and beyond.
