Located on one acre in picturesque Rockport, the Bed And Breakfast was built in 1884 as the Victorian style residence of Gloucester District Court Judge Sumner D. York and his wife, Lizzie. The couple lived in the Rock Port MA B ed And Breakfast home for more than 60 years until their deaths in 1948 and 1950 respectively. The home was bequeathed to their daughter Theresa who lived there until 1990. For the next few years, the Rockport MA Bed And Breakfast home was left unoccupied and in a state of neglect and disrepair until Judge York’s great grandson Richard L. York and his wife Mary began restoration in 1992. Richard and Mary spent 10 years refurbishing the Rockport Bed And Breakfast home and its more than 100 family antiques while raising their three daughters, Elizabeth, Hannah and Hillary. The Rockport Massachusetts Bed And Breakfast opened for business in June of 2002.
Another amenity that guests appreciate is our quiet, convenient location. The train to Boston and Salem is a two minute walk. A five minute walk will take you to Front and Back Beach, and we provide guests with beach chairs, towels and even an umbrella. A leisurely ten-minute walk leads you to the many shops, galleries, and restaurants of the downtown village and Bearskin Neck. The attractions of Gloucester’s active seaport, including whale watching, harbor tours, deep sea fishing, art galleries, historic exhibits and more, are just a few minutes drive. Basically, you can easily enjoy visiting Rockport, Cape Ann, the North Shore and Boston, all from here.
