The Fitch House B&B, is a bed and breakfast inn located in the rolling hills of northeastern Connecticut. This part of Connecticut, known as "The Quiet Corner", offers a more leisurely alternative to the rest of the state. To stay a night at The Fitch House is to step back into a more gracious time, but with the most modern and elegant of amenities. The innkeepers, Kay and Tony Holt, are deeply committed to making guests feel comfortable and to introducing guests to the area’s many attractions. They are knowledgeable about the history of the house and the area.

THE FITCH HOUSE itself is one of the area attractions. It was built in the Greek Revival style in 1836 by Col. Edwin Fitch, one of Connecticut’s early builder-architects. He built the house in order to impress his future father-in-law and to launch his architectural career. His strategy proved to be successful on both counts. The next two owners were silk manufacturers, silk being Mansfield’s premier industry in the 19th century. (Mansfield, by mid-century, was one of the country’s leading producers of silk!) The house was little changed until expanded in the early 20th century by a wealthy owner, a descendant of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, winner of the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812. Since 1935 the house has been in the family of the present owners. It is listed on The National Register of Historic Places.

Proximity to the University of Connecticut and Eastern Connecticut State University (about 3-4 miles for each) brings to guests many activities including, but not limited to, the following: museums, concerts, summer theater, UCONN ice cream and UCONN basketball! Aside from the attractions of the two universities, "The Quiet Corner" has much to offer those in search of a change of pace. The hosts of The Fitch House are ready to help you arrange interesting hikes, tennis or golf at local sites, gourmet dining at local restaurants, trips to Old Sturbridge Village or Mystic Seaport, antiquing expeditions and more.
