If you prefer an active day, may we suggest a day of boating, fishing and golf along the shores of the nearby 20,000 acre Lake Gaston. Or, if you want to do some scuba diving, we are also close to Lake Rawlings. Within 20 minutes are apple or strawberry picking in season as well as numerous Historical and Civil War sites. Or perhaps you'll fancy a shopping excursion into the easygoing nearby towns where you can peruse the antique shops and stores. Lawrenceville is rich in history as one of the oldest counties in Virginia. The original County Courthouse, Museum and other public and private buildings will intrigue and challenge even the most ardent of history buffs
Three Angels Inn at Historic Sherwood Plantation was built during the tumultuous years following the Civil War. It was originally a hospital committed to serving the black population of the area, treating the ill and infirmed of all ages. There was also a church on Sherwood Plantation. "Church in the Woods", as the locals used to call it, was used as a classroom for the black children of the community. In this day and time, such an undertaking may not seem out of the ordinary, but in a time when blacks could not find medical attention, education, or any of the necessities we take for granted, one woman, Patti Buford, answered the cry of an entire race, providing the love and attention they so desperately needed.
