We invite you to relax in the grandeur of the past when Southern life was slower and more gracious. This marvelously preserved and restored plantation home of 1859 can transport you to a time far away from today's stresses. Mayhurst is a magnificent and rare Italianate Victorian gem; remarkable for its fanciful exuberant architecture and oval-spiral staircase ascending four floors. It is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and is a Virginia Historic Landmark for its historic as well as architectural merit. You may wish to tour all four floors of the mansion complete with a climb to the rooftop tower where General "Stonewall" Jackson observed his troops. Imagine the bustling 2800 acre plantation of 1860, as you wander into the summer kitchen and smokehouse, past the schoolhouse for the children of the plantation, then continue touring 37 acres with 200 year old trees to the pond and spring house. You are walking where Confederate troops pitched their tents during the winter of 1863-64 protecting the mansion which served as headquarters of the Army of Northern Virginia's III Corps. General A.P. Hill commanded over 18,000 troops from a tent on the front lawn. General Robert E. Lee and "Stonewall" Jackson were also guests.

Now outstandingly restored with the best of the antebellum era and 21st century comforts: central air and heat, eight stately guest rooms with private baths, double whirlpool tubs, original Italian marble fireplaces, luxury linens, antiques and period decor. Snacks, soft drinks, wine and cheese are served each evening from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Three course full breakfasts are served on the large patio or in the dining room next to the fireplace. We have numerous Vacation and Romantic Packages, including: Adventure, Golf, Civil War, Winery Tours, Presidential Mansion Tours, and Romance Packages. You may also build your own package from our à la carte listing of extras including: fresh roses, in-room massages, champagne and strawberries and scrumptious picnic baskets among many others.

Mayhurst is located within easy driving distance from 6 Civil War Battlefields, 6 Wineries, 2 Museums, 3 Presidential Homes (Montpelier, Monticello and Ashlawn) and 4 Golf Courses. Recreational activities, such as horseback riding, skydiving. fishing, ballooning (from Mayhurst) and hiking opportunities abound. Orange County and the surrounding area are renowned for numerous Art Studios, Antique Malls and Gift Shops. Located just 30 miles from the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and Skyline Drive. Guests are also encouraged to dine at the over 20 Restaurants in the immediate area.

Mayhurst is also a Wedding and Event site destination and has hosted wedding cceremonies and receptions ranging in size from 10 to 300. With its extensive grounds and 9200 sq. ft. Manor House Mayhurst can accommodate virtually any event.

Other Amenities ...

Our beds are fitted with luxury linens and down pillows. The decor of each guest room is distinctively different and contain a wide variety of antiques. Godiva chocolates, bottled water, special soaps and shampoos and hand and body lotion are in every room. The Garden Room is fully compliant with regulations of the American Disabilities Act.

Snacks are always available in the library and in each of the three parlors.

The library has hundreds of books for guest perusal and a variety of current magazines are in each room and parlor. A variety of VCR Tapes and DVD's are available for guest use on the TV in the Library or Piedmont Suite.

Mayhurst has 37 acres of landscaped grounds, multiple gardens, a large inviting patio, porches and a verandah, 2 miles of mowed walking paths, a comfortable hammock and a fishing pond. All invite you to forget the stress, forget work, and relax.

Reservation Policies:

On most weekends there is a two night minimum.

Guaranteeing a reservation:

Receipt of a deposit of one night's stay or half the total stay will hold a reservation.

We accept personal and Travelers checks, MasterCard, American Express and VISA. When a credit card is used for a reservation it is processed the day the reservation is made. Checks should be received within 7 days of making a reservation.

Cancellations: Refunds, less a $20.00 processing and cancellation fee, will be made if notice of cancellation is received at least 10 days before the date of arrival. Otherwise, deposits are not refundable unless the room is rebooked.

Party of 3 or 4? Several rooms either have beds for three and/or lend themselves to accommodating a rollaway. They are: Garden, Madison, Italian Suite, and Piedmont Suite. Each additional person in a room is $25.
