Aptly named for its well known owner, The Bell House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Virginia Historic Landmark. The home was built in 1883 by Colonel J.O.P. Burnside, son of Civil War General Ambrose Burnside. The Colonel lost the house to the U. S. Government in a lawsuit over pay irregularities in the Union Army accounts. Owned next by Alexander Graham Bell’s father and then Alexander himself, the home overlooks a wide expanse of the Potomac River.
Step back in time and enjoy the historical ambiance of the house and the hospitality of your innkeeper, Anne Bolin. Every detail of the home reflects the quality and workmanship of a bygone era … beautifully illustrated by original hardwood flooring, stained glass windows, and scenic balconies. The Bell House, a beautiful old Victorian, was once the summer home of Alexander Graham Bell. We offer you a comfortable and relaxing visit with true Southern hospitality. We invite you to tour our web site, using the Web menu at left, to learn about this Virginia Historic Landmark and National Historic Property.
