Our best guess as to the age of ‘The Old Hotel’ is about 160 years, built circa 1840. The building was called ‘The Butterfield Hotel’ during the late 1800’s, and was home to the lumberjacks who worked in the area. This industry supplied logs to the many bobbin mills that lined our New Haven River. We decided on ‘The Old Hotel’ for its new name as the locals refer to our home as ‘The Old Hotel’. The building has had many names, ‘The Long Run Inn’ being the most recent.
Some of our town folk claim we have a ghost. The story goes that it is a young lady who got involved with a lumberjack living at the hotel. Her story is based on the true story of Dora Cushman, the local doctor’s daughter, and her untimely death. Whether we have an apparition or not is anybody’s guess. I haven’t seen her yet! An old hotel converted into a bed and breakfast, located in a lovely village nestled in the foothills of the green mountains. Hiking, biking, skiing, arts & entertainment just minutes away.
