While we are unable to write the entire history of this house, we do know that two sea captains called it home—Captain William E. Elliott, in the mid-1800s, and Captain James F. Chase, in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Both the main house (left, above) and the coach are available for stays. We're located on U.S. Route 1 (the coastal highway) in East Machias, Maine, on the East Machias River. The East Machias is a tidal river that ebbs and flows with the changing tides, and serves as a sea-run for Atlantic salmon and shad. An eagle lives nearby, and seals and herons are seen frequently. You can walk the retired railroad tracks that run alongside the river, or sit comfortably in our small garden at river's edge and enjoy the view. The tides range from eighteen to twenty-eight feet on the coast in Washington County.
