Hobson House Celtic Inn gives you gracious lodging in the heart of a small town. The bustle of the day's activities is shuttered out and disappears the moment you enter. The Federal Style Mansion, circa 1830, is sited on an acre of wooded and landscaped grounds. The Italianate barn anchors the tranquil setting and screens the heated, in-ground pool. Architecturally significant, Hobson House has been nominated for the National Register of Historic Places. An easy walk from Hobson House takes you into Saco's Historic District where highlights include the York Institute Museum, Dyer Library, Saco's Sidewalk Art Festival, La Kermesse Celebration and Fireworks.
We are centrally located and a short drive leads to varied activities including: Old Orchard Beach and Saco beaches, Kennebunkport, Aquaboggan Water Park, Funtown Amusement Park, factory outlet shopping in Kittery or Freeport, summer theater in Ogunquit or Boothbay Harbor and of course, all that Portland has to offer. Dining in the area runs the gamut from fine gourmet food to satisfying local specials at restaurants and many church or school suppers. We have beautiful ocean and bay beaches as well as a unique estuarine resource and one of the few raised bogs in the world. In summer, relax by the pool, or bike, canoe, hike, swim, sail, boat and fish - all close by.
Buy your lobsters and enjoy them at our picnic table, or take a rainy day in the hammock on the screen porch at garden's edge. In winters, you can spend energy at the fine nordic ski facilities within easy driving. Or experience less complicated pleasures and sled, cross country ski and snowshoe within minutes of downtown. The Alice May Hobson Suite is furnished with a queen fourposted bed and features a sitting area and chaise by the fireplace. The Indian Shuttered windows give a view onto the treetops and some of Saco's finest antique homes.
Joseph Goodale, quite likely Alice's secret beau, lends his name to quarters furnished with a Queen fourposted bed, warm color and pattern and a lovely view to the pool.
