Welcome to Balance Rock Inn. Bar Harbor's only four-diamond oceanfront accommodations. No other 4-diamond property can offer you oceanfront accommodations and the convenience of being in downtown Bar Harbor. Located on a quiet cul-de-sac just a block from the heart of Bar Harbor's downtown, Balance Rock Inn enjoys a breathtaking waterfront location on the historic Shore Path. There is no need to drive and look for scarce parking when you want to enjoy shopping, dining and in-town activities and attractions. Acadia National Park is just minutes away.
The mansion, Balance Rock, was built in 1903 for Scottish railroad tycoon Alexander Maitland and his family. The lovely shingle-style structure was designed by the prestigious Boston architect firm of Andrews, Jacques, and Rantouil, often used by the wealthy summer residents of Bar Harbor during the turn of the century. The original "cottage" was completely refurbished in the last few years as an elegant inn with every amenity. Balance Rock Inn is Bar Harbor's only oceanfront 4-diamond accommodation. Its fabulous location on a quiet cul-de-sac just steps from the heart of down town puts you conveniently close to all you want to do, yet preserves a tranquil atmosphere. The historic Shore Path crosses the Inn property at the water's edge. That is where the "balance rock", a gravity defying boulder made famous in a children's book, is located.
Upon arrival, you will be greeted by our concierge who will show you the Inn and your accommodations as well as assit you in getting the most from your Bar Harbor vacation. As you enter the Inn and pass the grand stair, you will find yourself in the large and comfortable living room overlooking the veranda, the heated outdoor pool and the ocean. The lving room is the location for afternoon tea and goodies and features a grand piano which is often playing favorite selections. The dining room features a full breakfast of popular selections.

Inn Rooms
The Inn features 14 individually decorated rooms. Most have an ocean view, private balcony, whirlpool bath and other amenities. Some rooms feature fireplaces. All rooms and suites have private baths and in-room telephone.
Suites
There are 3 luxury suites. Suites feature living room, kitchen and bedroom with private bath and ocean views. Additional features can include sauna, whirlpool, fireplace, and balcony, depending upon the particular accommodation. Not all of thes additional features are available in all suites.
Outdoor Pool
A heated outdoor pool is available for our guests. Relax by the pool in one of our lounge chairs and watch the cruise ships anchor out in Frenchman Bay.
Fitness Room
