Secluded in northwest Upton County, Texas, where wind and water compete with cattle and oil you will find a special place to spend a night, a weekend or a week. Centered on the 24 square mile Barr Ranch, the guesthouse (homesteaded in 1906) brings to mind relaxation, comfort and privacy with a hint of history. A short drive away from Midland and Odessa, the Retreat makes a perfect weekend getaway for our west Texas neighbors. Visitors traveling the Texas Pecos Trail will find us a welcome alternative to standard accommodations. Those using the Midland International Airport will find the Barr Ranch an ideal overnight destination on their way to the Big Bend and Trans Pecos area.
Visitors are able to enjoy bird watching and wildflower viewing from the comfort of their back porch. Wildlife can be seen watering at the pond in the early morning or late evening. Hiking, mountain biking, photography and stargazing opportunities are available for the more adventuresome guests. There is a dining area and a full kitchen supplied with a coffee maker, microwave, dishes, pots and pans and essential staples. The refrigerator is stocked with bottled water, milk, juice and soft drinks to compliment the continental breakfast. The living room is pleasantly furnished and has a TV/VCR/DVD. (There is no TV reception so feel free to bring your favorite tape/DVD or we can provide many titles from our library.) A screened in porch with chairs and a table faces the pond and is a perfect spot to watch wildlife in the mornings and evenings. Outdoor cooks will enjoy the fire pit inside the fenced yard. The house can accommodate 5 people.
